Budvanska Rivijera BUDVA prolongs domestic supremacy by claiming national league for fifth consecutive year
News from the clubs

Budva, Montenegro, March 21, 2013. Budvanska Rivijera BUDVA recently claimed – doing so for the fifth consecutive year – Montenegro’s national league after sweeping three matches in the Championship series with Buducnost PODGORICA. With this result Budvanska Rivijera did extend its supremacy in all domestic competitions as the club has won Montenegro’s national cup and league uninterruptedly for the past five years.
“We have rounded off the season in a great way. Once again we have edged Buducnost and swept the national league as well as the national cup which was our ultimate goal” head coach Sinisa Reljic says. “To be honest I did expect this result but we nevertheless were ready to fight for it. This was already the eighth time we played this opponent since the start of the season and after we pocketed the opening set quite easily, my players understandably lost a bit their focus and determination. However, this made the second half of the match much more interesting and exciting also for the spectators”.
“Congratulations to Budvanska Rivijera as they fully deserved to win the title. They have been displaying great quality right since the start of the Playoffs and they had done so also in the Cup finals. We could not cause an upset though I have to admit that we played very good in the second set” the mentor of Buducnost, Zoran Vukcevic, stressed. “However, it was tough to stand Budvanska Rivijera’s experience and quality. I nevertheless want to congratulate my players because we have gone through some difficult moments this year”.

Budvanska Rivijera caught a good start in their third match with Buducnost going up 9:3 in the opening set before Luka Suljagic called for the second technical time-out by the score of 16:7. Though Buducnost attempted a late comeback, Budvanska Rivijera pocketed the opening set with the score of 25-17 to set the tone of the match.
Buducnost started playing much better in the second set going up 7:2 and 8:4 but the side from Montenegro’s capital city did lead the way for the last time at 18:17; after that BUDVA fought their way back with Vojin Cacic, Bozidar Cuk and Milan Markovic eventually seizing the set at 25-23.
The third set was much more one-sided with Blazo Milic making it 15:8 for BUDVA before Buducnost got a positive 9:2 series to level the score at 17 all. Once more Cacic and Markovic made the difference for Budvanska Rivijera by scoring four consecutive points (21:17) and only a few moments later the party could start at Mediteranski sports hall.

Mr. Cvetko Pajkovic, President of the Volleyball Federation of Montenegro, attended the awards ceremony to present the captain of Budvanska Rivijera, Milan Markovic, with the trophy for the winner of this year’s national league.
