PIACENZA celebrates great comeback to European Cups
2013 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup - Men
Piacenza, Italy, November 15, 2012. After missing the European arena for the past couple of years, Copra Elior PIACENZA of Italy celebrated on Thursday a splendid comeback by scoring a speedy 3:0 home win (25-19, 25-16, and 25-22) to edge ISTANBUL BBSK in the first leg of play for the second round of the 2013 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup – Men.
The group coached by Luca Monti dominated the scene, especially in the first and second set, with the recently transferred Cuban star Robertlandy Simon Aties (pictured) systematically blocking the attacks of Siarhei Antanovich, who still top scored for the side from Turkey with 11 points. Apart from Simon, Hristo Zlatanov, Alessandro Fei and Samuele Papi did a good job for the home side, with Fei top scoring with 16 points. PIACENZA stood out especially in blocking with 17 winners vs. only five in this fundamental for ISTANBUL BBSK, the winner of this year’s BVA Cup. The return match is scheduled for next November 22 in Turkey.
