First in-person BoA meeting identifies key priorities for European Volleyball

Luxembourg, February 26, 2021. The members of the CEV Board of Administration chaired by President Aleksandar Boričić had the pleasure of meeting in person for the first time since last year’s General Assembly in Vienna for an open exchange of views and a very productive discussion on a number of items that will help grow the Volleyball game even further.
As many as 14 of the newly elected CEV BoA members were able to travel to Luxembourg City, with another five following proceedings via the Zoom platform. It was obvious that meeting in person is especially important at a time where the Volleyball family is still dealing with the unprecedented challenges brought by the coronavirus pandemic. However, after responding swiftly to the health crisis, European Volleyball continues to go from strength to strength and today’s BoA meeting will help continue this positive trend, despite all of the constraints that the sports business still has to deal with.
As announced earlier today (click here for further details), the BoA appointed the Italian city of Verona as the host of this year’s CEV Champions League Volley Super Finals. The event will gather the top two teams per gender in the city of Romeo and Juliet – where an international Volleyball competition of this profile and magnitude returns after Verona played host to matches of the 2010 men’s and 2014 women’s World Championships.

the CEV due to announce next week the host of the CEV Beach Volleyball
Continental Cup Final – the last stage of the Olympic qualifying process
for the re-scheduled Tokyo 2020 Olympics. The winners of this
much-anticipated competition in each gender will secure a quota spot for
their National Olympic Committee to compete at Tokyo 2020 later this
summer, thus crowning their Olympic dream.
Next week the CEV will announce also the organisers of the 2021 European Silver League Final Four tournaments – whose winners will book a spot in the 2022 edition of the top-tier Golden League. Belgium and Bulgaria are the already confirmed hosts of the Golden League Finals 2021 for men and women, respectively.
In an effort to support teams and their National Federations even further, the CEV Board of Administration decided to increase the prize money at stake for EuroVolley 2021 from € 1.5 to 2 million – thus accounting for yet another record-breaking pot made available for the teams competing for the continental crown later this year. With the intention to continue an open dialogue with all stakeholders and to grow the sport at all levels, the CEV BoA confirmed the appointments of Working Group members as well – these will help with their know how to shape the future of European Volleyball in their respective areas of expertise.
Finally, the BoA discussed and reviewed a comprehensive strategy on the future use of digital data as well – with this identified as one of the core areas that the CEV will have to develop further in order to become even more competitive in the fast-changing sports business landscape.
