Wagrain-Kleinarl to host Austrian national championships to account for three straight weekends of Snow Volleyball action
News from the National Federations
Vienna, Austria, February 16, 2021. The 2021 edition of the Austrian Snow Volleyball national championship will be taking place on March 6-7, 2021 in Wagrain-Kleinarl with € 2,000 prize money at stake in each gender. The event will be taking place shortly after Wagrain-Kleinarl plays host to two CEV European Tour events on consecutive weekends in late February – the first international events on snow since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic last year.
It is the fourth edition of the Austrian championships, after Zell am See hosted the inaugural event in 2018, followed by back-to-back tournaments at Turracher Höhe. Wagrain-Kleinarl is especially fitting as a venue since the village in the Salzburger Land hosted the very first Snow Volleyball competition in 2009 as well as the inaugural CEV EuroSnowVolley in 2018 and the first stop of the FIVB Snow Volleyball World Tour in 2019.
This time, however, the tournament will be taking place at the foot of the ‘Flying Mozart’ station – and not at the usual mountain location. Originally, Turracher Höhe should have played host to the national championships but the pandemic made this impossible. As a result, Wagrain-Kleinarl will now become the Snow Volleyball ‘hotspot’ for three straight weekends.
Martin Kaswurm, managing director of organiser and promoter Chaka2: “We are very pleased that we were able to bring the Austrian national championships to Wagrain-Kleinarl. After the two CEV European Tour events, this will be an absolute highlight for the Austrian athletes at the beginning of March.”
Due to the current restrictions preventing spectators from attending on site, the ever-growing Snow Volleyball fan base will have to be content with following the matches through the live streaming on the web.
