Avan and Shengavit crowned U15 national champions in Armenia
News from the National Federations
Yerevan, Armenia, December 13, 2020. The Volleyball Federation of Armenia (VFA) hosted this week the 2020 edition of the U15 Armenian Youth Volleyball Championship in the city of Etchmiadzin. The event specifically designed for such young players was an opportunity to pay tribute to Mr Perch Khachatryan, a former player of the Armenian national team.
The competition featured as many as eight teams and it was the first national Volleyball championship organised in 2020 – after the coronavirus pandemic caused many disruptions to the Volleyball season as well. The kids showed they had prepared well for the tournament, delivering a series of very close and exciting matches.
Team Avan were the dominant winners of the girls’ competition. Team Shengavit and Team Geghashen finished second and third, respectively.
The boys of Team Shengavit emerged victorious from a very closely fought competition, where Team Hnaberd from the Aragatsotn Province and Team Arabkir from Yerevan completed the podium.
The Volleyball Federation of Armenia presented the top three teams with diplomas, medals and cups, with the best six individual players of the tournament receiving additional gifts as well. Moreover, thanks to the help provided by the Volleyball Federation of Russia, the VFA was able to distribute volleyballs to all of the participating teams.
At the end of the championship, the participants observed a minute’s silence to pay tribute to the Armenian soldiers who died in the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war earlier this year.
The Volleyball Federation of Armenia has devised plans to hold two School Volleyball Festivals as well as a Snow Volleyball competition in the coming weeks.
