Stanislav Shevchenko to lead Russian Volleyball family for another four years
News from the National Federations

Moscow, Russia, December 11, 2020. CEV Vice-President Stanislav Shevchenko (pictured) will remain at the helm of the Volleyball Federation of Russia (VFR) for another four years following the elections held earlier today in Moscow. Alexander Yaremenko will continue his work as Secretary General, with the pool of Vice-Presidents including Andrey Gorbenko, Nikolay Karpol and Gennady Shipulin.

Shevchenko’s re-election at the top of Russia’s Volleyball family was unanimous. Mr Gorbenko will continue to serve as General Director of the organisation as well, chairing the Beach Volleyball Council too. Karpol and Shipulin are among the world’s most legendary and successful Volleyball coaches – and still leading their respective clubs in Ekaterinburg and Belgorod.

The VFR General Assembly featured some illustrious guests, more specifically the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Volleyball Federation of Russia, Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Mr Nikolay Patrushev, and the Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation, Mr Oleg Matytsin.

“We received a mandate for another four years. The main task of the Federation for this period is to win several medals at the Olympics.  We look for such results for our men’s and women’s national teams and in Beach Volleyball as well,” Mr Shevchenko said. “The assessment of the work done by the Federation over the last term is satisfactory. The main criterion to assess our performance is qualification for the Olympic Games. We have already five teams qualified, in Volleyball and Beach Volleyball. We are waiting for the sixth Olympic ticket to go to our women’s Beach Volleyball team. I am sure that they will qualify and in the end, we will have the maximum number of quotas available for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics,” he continued.

During the Assembly, Mr Shevchenko reported on the achievements of Russian Volleyball as well as on the work done for the further growth and development of the sport at the grassroots level.

Mr Sergey Shlyapnikov, now a member of the CEV Coaches Commission, shared updates on the work done with the younger age groups. Mr Roman Stanislavov, who is the President of the European Cups Commission, briefed the attendees on the activities of the Organising Committee of the 2022 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship – an event due to take place in Russia.
