News from the Zonal Associations
Vienna, Austria, November 23, 2020. On Sunday night, OK Calcit KAMNIK (SLO) needed four sets in this weekend’s MEVZA League only fixture to defeat SK Zadruga AICH/DOB (AUT) 25-23, 25-20, 23-25, 25-22 on home soil.
The hosts increased their points to five on a 2-1 win-loss record. As a result, they moved up to fourth place in the current standing, while Austria’s heavyweight had to cope with another setback. AICH/DOB have just secured three points out of four MEVZA League matches they have contested so far. Therefore, Matjaz Hafner’s team is sitting in sixth place in the table.
OK Calcit KAMNIK’s outside hitter Gal Timotej Kos and AICH/DOB’s opposite Daniel de Souza Maciel split the best scorer honours with a record of 19 points each. Match stats: spikes 48-48; aces 8-3; blocks 9-14 and opponent errors 33-25.
OK Calcit KAMNIK head coach Gregor Jeroncic: “I am satisfied with the result, although we made too many mistakes at the beginning of the third set. In the fourth set, we played very well in attack, as we did already in the decisive stages of the first and second set. I am also happy with how we played in defence, because we did not give up a single ball. Finally, we were rewarded for the effort we put in the game.”
The MEVZA League is going to resume on Friday, when AICH/DOB will clash with the still unbeaten defending champions ACH Volley LJUBLJANA of Slovenia as well.
