Tobias Winter ends Beach Volleyball career to return to play indoors
News from the National Federations
Vienna, Austria, November 18, 2020. Austria’s elite Beach Volleyball player Tobias Winter has announced plans to switch from the beach to playing indoors only, more specifically for VCA AMSTETTEN NÖ. This means that he will return to the very same club where his Volleyball career started some years ago.
“I have known him since he was a child and I was really happy when he called me and we discussed the collaboration,” explains VCA Sports Director Michael Henschke.
“I am extremely happy that I have returned to my roots. The VCA has big plans and I feel privileged to be a part of it. I am excited to see how quickly I can gain a foothold in the top division of the Austrian national league. With Fabian Kriener and Philip Ichovski I meet former teammates, which of course I am also very happy about,” says Tobias, who has already started training at the VCA.
Tobias Winter spent seven years as a professional Beach Volleyball player; however, this transition does not happen without an intermediate step. “He was last in action in the 2nd Bundesliga for Döbling. That rekindled the fire for playing indoors,” says Henschke, who is convinced that “with his commitment we will further increase the quality of our team”.
Last summer, Tobias Winter played along with Julian Hörl, securing a bronze medal at the HYPO NOE Beach Volleyball Champions Cup, silver from the Austrian national championship and gold at the 31st Raiffeisen Wolfurt Trophy, part of the Austrian Beach Volleyball Tour Pro. Winter also achieved great success on the international stage, with gold from the U20 European Championship in 2012 and bronze from the U23 World Championship a year later.
“It is nice when such a player knocks on your door and it is even better when he pulls on your shirt. It is kind of awesome for me that we can welcome Tobi back to the VCA family,” concluded a delighted Henschke.
