AICH/DOB secure first MEVZA League win this season
News from the Zonal Associations

Vienna, Austria, October 25, 2020. SK Zadruga AICH/DOB cruised to a commanding home win against MEVZA League rookies UVC Holding GRAZ in an Austrian derby played on Saturday evening. Even though head coach Matjaz Hafner could not count on a full roster, his team needed just 69 minutes to celebrate a straight-set (25-22, 25-17, 25-19) victory.

A week ago, AICH/DOB suffered a very disappointing loss at the hands of Union Raiffeisen WALDVIERTEL in their season opener. Now the team from Carinthia is back on track. Thus, they moved up to third place in the current table, while UVC Holding GRAZ have not been able to collect a single point from the three matches they have contested so far.

“It was not an easy game. Due to injury problems, we had to make some changes to the line-up. As a result, our players needed some time to find the rhythm of the game. In the second and third set especially, we delivered a strong performance. Of course, we are satisfied with the result, but we are still looking for one or the other new player. Anyway, it was very important to claim our first win this MEVZA League season,” SK Zadruga AICH/DOB’s sports director Martin Micheu explained.

AICH/DOB’s Victor Hugo Miranda de Alcantara (BRA) topped the scorers’ chart on 16 points, including two aces and a winning block. Tiago Pereira (POR) hammered 15 for the away side.

There are no more fixtures scheduled for this weekend following the postponement of the matchup between Union Raiffeisen WALDVIERTEL and the confident table leaders and defending champions ACH Volley LJUBLJANA due to COVID-19 restrictions in place.
