Mladost ZAGREB look forward to MEVZA League opener against OK MARIBOR
News from the Zonal Associations

Vienna, Austria, October 20, 2020. The MEVZA League main round is going to resume on Wednesday, when Mladost ZAGREB will start their campaign against OK Merkur MARIBOR on home soil. Croatia’s heavyweight has won all of their four Superliga matches they have contested this far. Therefore, Mladost ZAGREB top the current standing of their national championship. OK MARIBOR, on the other hand, increased their points to seven from four MEVZA League matches last weekend. The Slovenians are currently sitting in second place, five points behind the confident table leaders and their compatriots of ACH Volley LJUBLJANA.

“We are really looking forward to the game, especially because it is our first MEVZA League match this season. I am glad that I can count on a full roster on Wednesday, because we will definitely have to face a lot of challenges in the months ahead,” Mladost ZAGREB coach Davor Meringer explained. Last Saturday, OK MARIBOR’s coach Sebastijan Skorc said: “We want absolutely to qualify for the Final four tournament.” However, he is aware that this season will be unique and unpredictable because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Anyway, Skorc can hardly wait for the game in Zagreb: “I expect my players to deliver another strong performance!”

On Saturday, SK Zadruga AICH/DOB will host UVC Holding GRAZ in an Austrian derby. The Carinthians have had to cope with a very disappointing four-set loss they suffered some days ago at the hands of their toughest national opponents in recent years, i.e. Union Raiffeisen WALDVIERTEL. Rookies UVC GRAZ is currently sitting at the bottom of the table with a 0-2 win-loss record. In the third matchup this week, defending champions ACH Volley will clash with Union Raiffeisen WALDVIERTEL in Zwettl.
