Positive response across international media following CEV General Assembly
News from the CEV

Luxembourg, October 21, 2020. Last week’s XLI CEV General Assembly was the first such in-person meeting to take place since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic across all sports. The event held in the Austrian capital was a truly important one to shape the future of European Volleyball, especially with the top position at the helm of the organisation at stake. As many as 36 National Federations, an overwhelming absolute majority, supported incumbent CEV President Aleksandar Boričić, who will therefore lead Europe’s Volleyball family for another four years.

The CEV General Assembly and especially the election of the President and of the members composing the CEV Board of Administration for the 2020-2024 term made the headlines on an impressive number of international media, including some of the most renowned news agencies across the continent.

Several news outlets understandably focussed on the election of officials from their respective countries among those who will represent European Volleyball at the highest level in the coming years. However, there was unanimous praise across the whole spectrum for the work done by the incumbent President and the CEV leadership to revitalise European Volleyball, while striving for modernisation and innovation at all levels.

Media from accomplished Volleyball nations such as Russia, Italy, Poland, Serbia, and the Netherlands have covered the CEV General Assembly extensively. The news coming from Vienna have had an impressive reach from west to east and north to south, with much enthusiasm recorded in Gibraltar following the historic election of Ms Emma Labrador as member of the CEV Board of Administration and her appointment as a CEV Vice-President.

The virtuous process initiated five years ago in Sofia is now set to continue at an even faster pace. “Together with my colleagues from the newly elected CEV Board of Administration, we are full of positive energy and dedication to attract the younger generations to our sport, increase participation, strengthen the three disciplines under one umbrella, create valuable products, raise the overall awareness of our beautiful game and bring our institution at the forefront of the sports world. All these ambitious goals and challenges ahead of us we will only achieve by overcoming individual interests and by working closely together as one team,” the re-elected CEV President wrote in a message sent earlier this week to all 56 member National Federations.
