Swiss Volley announce Daniel Rodriguez Wood as the new coach of their men’s national team programme
News from the National Federations
Bern, Switzerland, September 11, 2020. The Spanish-American dual citizen Daniel Rodriguez Wood will complete the coaching staff of the Swiss men’s Beach Volleyball national team starting from this coming November after Markus Egger’s resignation. Wood was most recently working with the Dutch women’s team Joy Stubbe/Marleen van Iersel. The 46-year-old has achieved countless successes in his coaching career, for example by leading the German men’s team Jonathan Erdmann/Kay Matysik to bronze at the 2013 World Championship in Stare Jablonki, Poland.
Daniel Rodriguez Wood has worked throughout his career with Erdmann/Matysik, as head coach of the Spanish women’s Olympic squad and most recently as head coach of the Dutch top team Stubbe/Van Iersel. Wood also worked with Spanish youth players from 2004–2009. In addition to his activities as a coach, Wood is also President of the International Beach Volleyball Coaches Association (IBVCA).
Sebastian Beck, future head of high-performance Beach Volleyball at Swiss Volley, is happy with the move: “Daniel Rodriguez Wood is a fantastic coach who embodies an enormous passion for our sport. As a coach, he has repeatedly succeeded in motivating athletes, challenging them and developing them into a better self. We consider ourselves extremely lucky to have secured a partnership with Danny Wood, a renowned and experienced trainer to join our strong coaching staff. Welcome to the family, Danny!”
Daniel Rodriguez Wood is also looking forward to this new challenge: “I have always admired the structure of the Swiss Beach Volleyball programme, so it is a pleasure for me to be a part of it. Swiss Volley already has great coaches so I am sure that I will learn and grow in close cooperation with them. I hope that I can help the teams become even more competitive and that we can achieve great goals together. I am ready for the challenge.”
