Aleksandrs Samoilovs: "Since childhood I've liked all sports. I started with tennis and swimming then I switched to wrestling, and when I was nine I joined basketball where I was really good and played for the next ten years. I also played football, kickboxing, but when I was fifteen I started playing beach volleyball. My father was a beach volleyball player and he played the last two years of his career in Spain, after which he decided to coach me upon his return to Latvia. Ever since then I started playing with adults and practicing in both basketball and beach volleyball.
The choice came when I got accepted into medical school and received a scholarship so I had to choose between becoming a professional player and becoming a doctor."
