U22 champions crowned in Armenia as national competitions continue in full swing
News from the National Federations
Yerevan, Armenia, July 17, 2020. The Volleyball Federation of Armenia (VFA) continued this week their intensive programme of domestic competitions and they did so with the successful organisation of the U22 Beach Volleyball national championship held at Grand Sports Complex in Yerevan. This was the fifth Beach Volleyball competition organised in the Armenian capital in as many weeks after the U18, U19, U20 and ‘senior’ events previously held at the very same venue.
It was extremely important for the VFA to offer competition opportunities to their athletes despite the many challenges brought by the coronavirus pandemic and the restrictions still in place in the Caucasus country. Actually, Beach Volleyball was second only to soccer in resuming activities and all events ran smoothly, thus accounting for a record number of 195 matches.
The latest tournament featured 10 men’s and 10 women’s teams, with the pool stage lasting for two days and followed by the playoffs. The competition for the U22 national titles was a fierce one, with all matches streamed live on the YouTube channel of VBET, the official partner of the Volleyball Federation of Armenia.
Arman Miskaryan and Razmik Hakobyan were the eventual winners of the men’s competition, thus securing the crown for the Yerevan-based FIMA club. Team KhMOMM and FIMA-2 were the silver and bronze medallists, respectively.
After a very close competition, Diana Melkumyan and Mary Poghosyan secured the women’s U22 title for Team Avan. Team Van and Team Geghashen completed the podium in second and third place.
VFA President Hrachya Muradyan presented the top three teams with cups, medals, diplomas and other souvenirs.
The Beach Volleyball season in Armenia continues next week with the Yerevan U18 Beach Volleyball Championship co-hosted by the VFA and the Yerevan Municipality starting on Monday, July 20.
