Turkish Federation officially ends national league after stop imposed by pandemic
News from the National Federations

Ankara, Turkey, May 11, 2020. The Board of Administration of the Turkish Volleyball Federation (TVF) decided on Monday to end officially the 2019/2020 edition of their national league. The outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic had brought the competition to a standstill in late March. Moreover, the BoA confirmed that the Federation would regard the ‘frozen’ standings as of March as the final ones and that the next edition of the national league would feature as many as 16 teams per gender.

Fenerbahce HDI Sigorta ISTANBUL and VakifBank ISTANBUL were the two teams leading the men’s and women’s standings, respectively, when the Federation had to stop the competition following measures introduced by the Turkish government to curb the spread of the novel virus.

“Because the teams did not compete in the play-offs, we will not be declaring any of them champions for this year,” said Mehmet Akif Üstündag, the President of the Turkish Volleyball Federation.

As per the final standings, teams should take their spots in the next edition of the European Cups, with VakifBank, Eczacibasi VitrA and Fenerbahce Opet due to represent Turkey once again in the next edition of the elite women’s CEV Champions League. Turkey has two spots in the pool stage of the men’s Champions League, with these going to Fenerbahce and Arkas IZMIR as per the final standing of the AXA Sigorta Efeler men’s national league.
