CEV Snow Volleyball Tour – five-season review (Part 2)
CEV Snow Volleyball European Tour 2020

Continues from Part 1

Luxembourg, April 8, 2020.  In Part 2, let’s take a look at all the medal statistics by country over the five full seasons of the CEV Snow Volleyball European Tour. The medal count started at Spindleruv Mlyn 2016, where two mixed teams claimed the first Tour gold – the joint Slovak-Czech duo of Silvia Poszmikova & Zuzana Vojtiskova for women and the joint Czech-Polish pair of Robert Kufa & Michal Matyja for men.

2016 was the first and last season of the European Tour when such mixed teams were allowed to participate. In addition to the above, only two more medals were won by partners from two different countries – the Wagrain-Kleinarl women’s gold was claimed by Michaela Bertalanitsch (Germany) & Marta Swiechowska (Poland) and the Plan de Corones / Kronplatz men’s silver went to Florian Schnetzer (Austria) & Florian Schweikart (Germany). For the purposes of the statistics presented in this review, each of these four medals was counted towards both countries’ tallies.

Although the Russian teams stormed into the European Tour from the second season on, they dominate the five-season medal tables on all counts. In men’s competition, the Russians have claimed more gold medals (14) than all other countries combined (10). Next in that chart are Germany and the Czech Republic with two trophies each, followed by Poland, Turkey, Austria, Switzerland, Slovenia and Liechtenstein, each topping the podium once.

On total medal count, Russia leads with 33 podiums (14 gold, 10 silver, 9 bronze). Poland is second with 10 (1, 3, 6), while Germany (2, 2, 1) and Turkey (1, 3, 1) share the third position with five medals each.

On the women’s side, a wider distribution of the medals among the countries is observed. Russia tops the gold medal count with seven tournament wins. Czechia (with four) and Turkey (with three) complete the top three. Italy and Romania are next with two each. Slovakia, Lithuania, Germany, Switzerland, Poland, Latvia and USA are the remaining nations boasting women’s gold in their European Tour showcases.

Russia (7, 6, 1) shares the top of the overall medal table with Czechia (4, 5, 5), on 14 podiums each, followed by Turkey with eight and Lithuania with seven.

Russia with a total of 47 medals (21 gold, 16 silver, 10 bronze), Czechia with 18 (6, 7, 5) and Turkey with 13 (4, 6, 3) are the three countries that lead the combined double-gender standings on both gold medals won and total medals won.

As many as 18 different countries have claimed at least one medal over the first five seasons of the CEV Snow Volleyball European Tour.
