Caprara and Dutch Volleyball Federation part ways

Utrecht, Netherlands, March 2, 2020. Giovanni Caprara will not return to the Netherlands later this spring as the head coach of the women’s national team. That is what the Italian coach agreed in consultation with Technical Director of the Dutch Volleyball Federation (Nevobo), Mr Joop Alberda.
Nevobo introduced Caprara in early November 2019 as the new head coach of the Dutch women’s team with a very specific assignment: securing a spot to compete at the 2020 Olympics through the Tokyo Volleyball qualification tournament in Apeldoorn. Immediately after the end of this qualifier, Caprara’s temporary contract expired and, regardless of the outcome in Apeldoorn, the parties continued to discuss the possibility to extend their cooperation.
Caprara, however, wants to spend more time with his family after many demanding years in top Volleyball. “Gianni had to perform under high pressure for many years as a top coach,” Alberda explains. “I understand that he wants to spend more time with his family now, and that is why we have jointly decided not to extend the contract. That is a pity, but the national team has to move on, and I am responsible for the future of the programme.”
The Nevobo is currently searching for the best way to fill the vacancy.
