EEVZA member countries discuss plans to grow Beach and Snow Volleyball
News from the Zonal Associations

Vilnius, Lithuania, February 23, 2020. The annual meeting involving representatives of the Eastern European Volleyball Zonal Association (EEVZA) responsible for Beach Volleyball and Snow Volleyball took place on Saturday in Vilnius, thus accounting for a series of productive discussions on how to grow the game across the member countries.

EEVZA Secretary General Inara Brokane and Mr Edgars Zaizenijs, the EEVZA Beach/Snow Volleyball Coordinator, welcomed all members of the EEVZA family and thanked the delegates from Belarus, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Russia for their readiness to join the discussions.

Mr Andrius Gaidys, Secretary General of the Lithuanian Volleyball Federation, deserved a warm welcome to all the participants and was especially happy as the EEVZA Beach and Snow Volleyball representatives were meeting for the very first time in Vilnius, what is important and will help promote and develop the sport in Lithuania.

Firstly, the delegates shared the latest updates on the development of Beach Volleyball and Snow Volleyball in their respective countries. Mr Laos Lukas briefly shared some information from the European Beach Volleyball Commission (EBVC) meeting held last December at the home of European Volleyball in Luxembourg.

The next topic on the agenda was a review of the EEVZA Snow Volleyball season 2020, with historic events held in Armenia and Georgia earlier this month. Mrs Brokane and Mr Zaizenijs presented the organisational issues of such tournaments, discussing these further with their colleagues. The delegates from Lithuania and Russia shared some experience to this extent as well as they have delivered Snow Volleyball competitions in their countries.

EEVZA will further elaborate on plans for the next Snow Volleyball season in order to attract more teams and players and to develop the sport based on the feedback received from the member Federations.

Moving from snow to the sand, the attendees agreed on plans to deliver the EEVZA Beach Volleyball competitions for the U16 and U18 age groups before the European U18 Beach Volleyball Championships. The EEVZA authorities invited all National Federations to inform if they are ready and capable to host any of the age-group events for the 2020 season.

The meeting finished with a panel discussion, where delegates shared their experience from the organisation of Beach Volleyball zonal and World Tour events. Moreover, there were discussions about Beach Volleyball development programmes, courses for coaches and Supervisors, seen as an opportunity to grow the game even further.
