Contract extension! Enard stays head coach of BR Volleys until 2022

Berlin, Germany, January 24, 2020. Great news out of Germany’s capital before the start of the second half of the CEV Champions League Volley 2020 group stage: head coach Cedric Enard and the BERLIN Recycling Volleys will be working together beyond the current season. The 43-year-old coach has extended his contract with the German champions for another two years, so he will look after the BR Volleys team at least until 2022. However, the short-term goal of the Frenchman and his club will be reaching the quarterfinals of this year’s #CLVolleyM. Therefore, the Germans need a home success against Russian CL-rookies Fakel NOVY URENGOY on Tuesday.
“We are very happy with Cedric's work here. He managed to lead the team to success in a difficult season and we are on the right track this season too,” says CEO Kaweh Niroomand, explaining the club’s motives for the early contract extension. Cedric Enard became German champion in his first year with the BR Volleys in 2019, won the Supercup in the early stages of the 2019/2020 season and reached the national Cup final with the team – he will be vying for the title on February 16 in Mannheim. In the sports metropolis, his achievements resulted in the awarding of the silver bear – as a runner-up in the election for the ‘Berlin Coach of the Year’ before the turn of the year.
Enard himself, now also the national team head coach in Estonia, says about his contract extension: “I am very proud. This is a sign of trust that shows how satisfied both sides are with the collaboration. I enjoy being a coach here. The club, the team and the fans - everything fits together perfectly for me.” The BR Volleys and their head coach continue to have big plans. “We have started building something in the past year and a half. The club and Kaweh have big goals. Me too. We want to remain leaders in Germany and continuously improve ourselves internationally. We will work on this together,” said Enard.

For Niroomand, "Cedric has proven himself as a coach in Berlin, both in the further development of young players and in the accumulation of successes.” The two parties are working on the future together, because big tasks are on the line. “Cedric has shown that he knows the players market well due to his many years of international activity. That will be important because a lot of players’ contracts will expire at the end of this season.”
Cedric Enard has settled well in Berlin: “My wife and my three daughters were particularly happy. They really wanted to stay. They have been asking me for weeks what will be next. The situation could not be better for me now. I really enjoy my work here and my family feels more than comfortable in Germany.” This creates the ideal conditions to continue to lead the BR Volleys team to top athletic performance in the future.
On Tuesday, the two-time Final Four participant battles with Fakel NOVY URENGOY for very important points in Pool B. The Germans have to win against the Russian opponent – whose roster includes their former libero Erik Shoji – to stay in the competition. Nevertheless, the ‘Volleyball temple’ and the local fans are really looking forward to having Shoji back on stage at the Max-Schmeling-Halle. Berlin is poised for another terrific night in this Champions League campaign.
