Aspiring sports managers visit home of European Volleyball
News from the CEV

Luxembourg, January 21, 2020. On Tuesday afternoon, the ‘home of European Volleyball’ in Luxembourg opened its doors to a cosmopolite group of young, energetic students of LUNEX – the International University of Health, Exercise and Sports based in Differdange, Luxembourg – visiting the CEV headquarters accompanied by their professor Mathieu Winand.

The 12 students currently attending the second year of a bachelor programme in International Sports Management were visibly excited at the perspective of paying visit to an international sports organisation for the very first time and showed much interest in knowing more about the activities run by the CEV and the daily governance and functioning of such an institution.

CEV Managing Director Thorsten Endres deserved a warm welcome to the visitors, emphasising the importance of establishing a close cooperation with such an academic institution from the Grand Duchy, especially knowing that graduates from LUNEX could potentially become interns and future employees working for the good of Volleyball in Europe.

CEV Technical and Development Manager Vuk Karanovic reviewed the milestones of the CEV history since its official establishment in 1973 as well as the key activities and core business of the European Volleyball Confederation. He stressed the importance of streamlining all efforts made to grow the game at the grassroots level while at the same time delivering major international, income-generating events such as EuroVolley and the Champions League Super Finals.

The visit is not a standalone action, since these very same students will now work on the production of a paper assessing the current e-sports landscape and the possibility of exploiting this rapidly growing business for the Volleyball family as well – thus identifying the opportunity to promote the sport among the younger generations through this channel.

“It was a very exciting afternoon and even though I am from Luxembourg, I have to admit that I did not know before that the CEV had their headquarters here. I am happy we could learn more about what the people working at the CEV are doing to grow Volleyball and with the opportunity we had to understand a bit more about the way an international sports organisation functions,” said Claire Faber, one of the students from the group. “The next step is to check the CEV’s social media accounts to see what you are posting there and will try to follow your activities more closely,” she added.
