School Project sparks Volleyball fever across Faroese schools

Torshavn, Faroe Islands, December 11, 2019. Christmas is fast approaching in the Faroe Islands and this means that schools and Volleyball clubs are closing down soon to enjoy the holiday season. However, there has been a lot of activity the last couple of weeks with six major school tournaments, involving more than 1,500 students from the third and fourth grades. At all the school tournaments, the organisers could witness a lot of joy and fighting spirit from all the children. It is fun, exciting and motivating to be part of the Kidsvolley school tournaments.
The school tournaments are a very important part of the CEV School Project in the Faroe Islands, says project manager Peter Morell: “From a club perspective, a school tournament is a short and a long-term investment. When we deliver school tournaments, we enjoy visibility at local schools and the physical education teachers practice and train Volleyball up to the school tournaments, thus adding the game to their programmes. The school tournaments show what Kidsvolley can do to help grow the game at school and educate the teachers as well.”
“What is also very important is that the school tournaments serve as a recruitment base where many children experience the joy of Kidsvolley and then continue to play in local clubs,” Morell continues.
After Christmas, the work with the CEV School Project will continue, involving 10 new cities and a number of schools. They will all benefit from balls and nets provided with the help of CEV.
