BVA General Assembly plans actions to grow the game in Balkan region

Bucharest, Romania, December 7, 2019. The annual General Assembly of the Balkan Volleyball Association (BVA) took place on Saturday in Bucharest with participation of representatives from the respective member countries. CEV President Aleksandar Boričić attended the event – as did CEV Senior Vice-President Renato Arena and CEV Vice-President and Treasurer Özkan Mutlugil.
Mr Gheorghe Visan, President of the Romanian Volleyball Federation, delivered a short welcome speech and shared his happiness for hosting so many members of the Volleyball family in Bucharest. Before the start of the General Assembly, the national TV channel was also in the room to capture interviews with Mr Boričić and Mr Visan and receive updates on the latest activities and plans for the development of Volleyball across the Balkan region.
CEV President Aleksandar Boričić thanked Mr Visan for the organisation of the BVA General Assembly. “I am especially happy that Romania, a Balkan country, decided to join other countries to organise EuroVolley 2021. I am sure that the Romanian Volleyball Federation will be a good host and I hope that Romania will return to the highest level in international Volleyball in the near future. The Balkan Volleyball Association is a strong family and the most active of all our Zonal Associations, with strong national teams that reached the top places in the final standings of this year’s EuroVolley,” the CEV President said.
The meeting continued according to the agenda, with the President of the BVA Technical Commission, Mr Periklis Bakodimos, providing a review of the many events and competitions organised in 2019. Moreover, the General Assembly confirmed the organisers of future Volleyball and Beach Volleyball events, with a focus on age-group competitions. The delegates approved the 2019 activity and financial reports before it was time to decide when and where the 2020 Balkan Volleyball and Beach Volleyball competitions will be taking place:

U16 Women Balkan Championship in Serbia, for players born in 2006 and after
U17 Men Balkan Championship in Greece, for players born in 2005 and after
U17 Women Balkan Championship in Serbia, for players born in 2004 and after
U18 Men Balkan Championship in Serbia, for players born in 2003 and after
U19 Women Balkan Championship in Kosovo, for players born in 2002 and after
U20 Men Balkan Championship in Kosovo, for players born in 2001 and after
Beach Volleyball
Senior Beach Volleyball Championships Men & Women in Albania
Senior Beach Volleyball Championships Men & Women in Turkey (TBC)
U22 Beach Volleyball Championships Men & Women in Kosovo
U20 Beach Volleyball Championships Men & Women in North Macedonia
The 2020 edition of the Balkan Kids Festival will take place in Romania with participation of young players born in 2007 and after and in 2008 and after for boys and girls, respectively.

As for the 2020 edition of the BVA Cup, the participating teams and venues will emerge after completion of the registration process for the 2021 edition of the European Cups.
The delegates agreed to start the delivery of zonal Snow Volleyball events under the umbrella of the BVA as of 2021. Romania will be organising the first such Snow Volleyball competition.
Moreover, the attendees decided to establish a working group to solve some of the technical issues that the BVA has been dealing with. These include the restyling of the BVA website, a more extensive usage of social media, the provision of live streaming for each zonal competition, and finding sponsors and partners to implement all of these activities. The members of the newly established working group are:
• Albens Vokopola, Secretary General of the Albanian Volleyball Federation
• Ivan Boskovic, Secretary General of the Volleyball Federation of Montenegro
• Zoran Avramovic, President of the BVA Marketing and Development Commission.
Due to the success their men’s national team achieved at EuroVolley 2019, the BVA General Assembly decided to nominate Mr Petar Jovanovski, President of the Volleyball Federation of North Macedonia, as the new BVA President until the next General Assembly. Mr Zoran Gajic of Serbia will be acting as BVA Vice-President for the next 12 months.
The next BVA General Assembly will take place in North Macedonia in late 2020.
