DPD Legionovia eager to make European Cups debut
CEV Volleyball Cup 2021

Legionowo, Poland, November 17, 2020. This Wednesday, DPD Legionovia LEGIONOWO of Poland will be making their historic debut in the European Cups when hosting BEZIERS Angels of France in the first of two matches scheduled for the 16th Finals of the CEV Volleyball Cup. Under the guidance of renowned Italian coach Alessandro Chiappini, the team from Legionowo surprised everyone a year ago and put up a fight with much more experienced and decorated teams in the Polish national league.

BEZIERS Angels have a wealth of experience in the European Cups, and last season they made it to the semis of the Challenge Cup before the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic forced the cancellation of the semis and finals.

“It is difficult to identify the favourite, since both teams are strong and can go far in the competition. I cannot bet on any of the teams as the eventual winners. They both have strengths and weaknesses. DPD Legionovia has the advantage of playing in a strong league and facing top teams on a daily basis. On the other hand, BEZIERS Angels have a lot of experience in the European Cups and last year they reached the semis before the pandemic broke out. I keep my fingers crossed for both teams and hope to have a chance to watch this great match!” says Olga Strantzali, who currently plays for Bosca San Bernardo CUNEO in the Italian national league after previous stints at Legionovia and BEZIERS.

“It is a completely new experience for our club and most of its members. I believe that it will be a beautiful adventure for us. I hope that memories from this journey will stay with us for years,” says Club Manager Maciej Szewczyk.

Both teams are returning to the court after breaks due to players testing positive to the novel coronavirus. Last Saturday they both played their first matches after observing the mandatory quarantine period. The BEZIERS Angels won 3-0 against PARIS St Cloud while DPD Legionovia lost 0-3 against ŁKS Commercecon LODZ.

The game starts this Wednesday, November 18 at 8 pm in DPD Arena Legionowo before the re-match follows next week in France.
