Russia in fine form at EEVZA #EuroVolleyU17W qualifier
News from the Zonal Associations
Tbilisi, Georgia, November 24, 2019. The EEVZA qualifier for the 2020 edition of the U17 Women’s European Championship continued on Sunday in Tbilisi, with the second day of competition.
After their heavy loss to Russia on Saturday, the home side of Georgia were hoping for a much better result against Latvia. Unfortunately, their effort was not enough to turn the tide. After losing the opening set 6-25, they tried to mount a comeback in the second set, but they eventually lost it 25-27. The third set went the way of Latvia as well (12-25), who celebrated their first victory in the tournament. Russia keep their perfect record in the event following their 3-0 victory (25-16, 25-11, 25-12) over Ukraine after a truly impressive display of high-quality Volleyball. Russia are the winners of last year’s U16 EEVZA Championship held in Olecko, Poland, where they did not lose a single set on their way to the gold medal.
On Monday, the teams in Pool B will begin their journey as well, with Estonia playing 2018 silver medallists Poland and Lithuania due to take on Belarus.
