Tens of journalists from various international media took the opportunity to see the Champions League trophy and speak one on one with the head coaches and the captains of the four participating teams, Romania’s CSM Volei Alba BLAJ, Turkey’s Galatasaray SK ISTANBUL and VakifBank ISTANBUL and Italy’s Imoco Volley CONEGLIANO, in the informal atmosphere of Friday’s media meeting held at the Grand Continental Hotel in Bucharest.

With all due respect for their opponents, the members of the four teams expressed their expectations for a tough and exciting tournament and pledged to give their best on the court chasing the best possible results.

Darko Zakoc, head coach of Volei Alba: “This is an occasion that does not happen often in Romanian sports. For our small and young club it is a great honour to be among these giants of European Volleyball. I hope that this is not where our dreams will stop and we will not just settle for the fourth place and be satisfied with just participating. If my team play with courage, with a lot of risk, without unforced mistakes, we can achieve something more and expect a surprise. You must understand that we are also guests here. This is not our hall, not our town, but we expect a lot of people from Blaj and all over Romania to come and help us.”

Ataman Güneyligil, head coach of Galatasaray: “First, we passed through a really powerful pool and, then, despite Tatiana Kosheleva’s injury and the loss to Igor Gorgonzola NOVARA at home, we beat them in the away match. So we are really happy to be here. We will once again try to give our best on the court and we will see what happens.”

Daniele Santarelli, head coach of Imoco Volley: “Tomorrow will be a great day. We know that VakifBank are a good team. We want to enjoy it and we want to be ourselves.”

Giovanni Guidetti, head coach of VakifBank: “We are VakifBank. We cannot hide away from our mission to win every tournament that we play. The clubs provides to us everything we need to win, so we have to give back to the club as much success as we can. For sure it will be very difficult. Imoco play really good Volleyball. As a big club, Galatasaray will never play alone and they will have the support of an incredible crowd. And I am sure Alba want to honour in the best way possible the fact that they play at home. But we are ready and we are confident in our power.”

Adina Salaoru, captain of Volei Alba: “The emotions are huge. For most of us it is the first participation in the Final Four. We hope that everything will be fine and we have enough determination to win. Everybody wants to win it, but we are facing a hard challenge.”

Neslihan Demir Güler, captain of Galatasaray: “I am very excited to be here. Alba BLAJ are a very good team. We are well prepared, but it will be a very hard game. Probably there will be a huge crowd, but we are used to playing in front of such big crowds.”

Joanna Wolosz, captain of Imoco Volley: “My team is really excited to have come to Bucharest for this really important tournament. In Volleyball you could see a lot of situations when the ‘underdogs’ beat the favourites. So we will see... For sure we will do our best to deliver a surprise tomorrow. There is no sense in arriving at a tournament and not dreaming about the victory. We are dreaming...”

Gözde Kirdar, captain of VakifBank: “I am really proud and happy to be here because this is our sixth final in a row, we are the last champion, and we have a big dream to win it twice in a row. I am finishing my career and these are my last two games, so I feel more excited and more empowered, actually, and I cannot wait to play. I don’t think there is a favourite team. Anybody can win, but of course we want it to be us...”
