Minchanka MINSK ready to take on Turkish powerhouse in #CEVCupW Finals
2018 CEV Volleyball Cup - Women

Minsk, Belarus, April 2, 2018. Minchanka MINSK and Eczacibasi VitrA ISTANBUL will be locking horns on Tuesday night in the Belarusian capital for the first round of the 2018 CEV Volleyball Cup – Women Finals. It is a truly historic moment for Belarusian Volleyball – since it is the first time in history that a team from this country will be contesting the final stage of a European Cup competition.

•    Only five days before the first round of the CEV Cup Finals, Minchanka claimed their fifth title in the Belarusian national league – and they achieved this feat without losing a single match throughout the season.
•    Last year Minchanka and Eczacibasi crossed their paths in the CEV Volleyball Champions League – with the Turkish powerhouse recording two wins in as many matches (3-1 and 3-0).
•    The organisers expect more than 3,500 fans to attend the home match with Eczacibasi. They sold out all tickets in three days only – and all tickets were gone four days before the match already.
•    It is the first time since 1987 that a Belarusian team contests a European final – back then Kommunalnik MINSK won the women’s Cup Winners Cup beating Nelson REGGIO EMILIA of Italy in the final. However, that came during the Soviet era – and before the country’s independence in late 1991.
•    In the previous rounds of the CEV Cup, Minchanka beat Serbia’s Jedinstvo STARA PAZOVA (3-1; 3-0), France’s BEZIERS VB (2-3; 3-1), Russia’s Uralochka-NTMK EKATERINBURG (3-1; 3-0) and Germany’s Allianz MTV STUTTGART (3-2; 2-3; Golden Set).

Alena Fedarynchyk, player of Minchanka MINSK: “We know that this match will be different compared to the previous ones we played in this competition since we feel a lot more self-confident and much stronger than earlier this season. We have been on a winning streak and we do not want this to end now. We will be doing everything we can to achieve a good result and we will see what this will be in the end.”

Viktar Hancharou, head coach of Minchanka MINSK: “I am motivating my players so that they play a good game. If they do so, the result will follow. We have to take to the court and play for the fans; the supporters should enjoy our performance and feel honoured to be a part of this moment.”
