Hungarian Libero carrying on the Juhár sporting tradition
2016 CEV U19 Volleyball European Championship - Women

Györ, Hungary, August 31, 2016. With Dalma Juhár competing at the 2016 CEV U19 Volleyball European Championship - Women she is continuing a proud family sporting tradition in her home country.

You can follow the Championship also on Facebook and Twitter, with the official hashtag to be used for all of your posts and tweets being #EuroVolleyU19W!

The promising talent was born in 1999 and is the daughter of former Hungary international footballer Tamás Juhár. Juhár senior was capped 20 times for the national team between 2000 and 2003 and will now be keeping a close eye on his daughter succeeding in a different ball sport.

Dalma is a libero and plays domestically for her club Vasas-Óbuda SC, which somewhat matches her father's trait since he was a central defender for clubs including Vasas and Újpest

“Dalma started to sport when I was playing in Cyprus from 2005 to 2007,” her father Tamás explained. “My wife and I did not say to her which sport to do, we only wanted her to play something.”

“Initially she tried to do athletics as a runner and she carried on when we moved back to Hungary. However, she took up Volleyball but her former running club always call us and say that if she stops Volleyball she can go back and run for them.”

The 43-year-old now works for Hungarian TV as a football commentator, but when he has free time he goes to see his daughter, and recently took in the CEV U19 Women's European Championship.

Dalma’s Hungarian team have won one of their three matches at this competition so far and she explained why she likes Volleyball so much.

“I wanted to play some kind of ball sport and my parents supported me for it,” she said. “I really enjoy Volleyball because in this sport I don't have to contact with the opponent, so I changed to this eight years ago.”

It was almost inevitable that she would play for Vasas because father Tamás is regarded as a club legend, having played for more than a decade at the club.

The scouts first noticed Dalma's talent in the national youth team two years ago and she has been capped for the U19s more than 20 times since.

Dalma added: “My first goal is to play in the Vasas-Óbuda's senior team. Of course, I want to be a member of the national team just like my father in football. I am proud of him. But I know I have to go step-by-step, and the first milestone is to be a permanent player in the Hungarian Volleyball first division.”

Her proud father Tamás concluded: “I am very happy, because Dalma carried on playing Volleyball and she has got the chance to play in the European Championship. Maybe she didn't realise it, but this is a great event she represents Hungary. Unfortunately, it was not given to me, but I would have given everything to play in this kind of prestigious event as a footballer.”
