Anticipation mounts in Bucharest ahead of historic European Cup final
2016 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup - Women

Bucharest, Romania, March 29, 2016. The city of Bucharest and the local Volleyball family are looking forward to a historic event. On Wednesday night C.S.M. BUCURESTI will be hosting Turkey’s TRABZON Idman Ocagi for the first round of the 2016 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup – Women Finals. The local ‘Tigresses’ – as the players of C.S.M. BUCURESTI are nicknamed – are vying for the first European trophy not only in their history, but also for Romania’s Volleyball family as a whole.

A press conference was organised in the Romanian capital on Monday, some 48 hours away from the much anticipated matchup with TRABZON Idman Ocagi.

The Italian-born coach of C.S.M. BUCURESTI Francois Salvagni said: “Our aim is not only to play the final, but to win it! This is a difficult-to-accomplish mission because TRABZON Idman Ocagi have a strong team and they have had a good season in the Challenge Cup so far. Their spikers are really good and they do well especially when attacking high balls. I have worked with one of their major stars, Jelena Blagojevic, for two seasons and I can only say that she is a great player. We should not underestimate TRABZON because they currently sit in tenth place in the Turkish national league. European Cup matches are always different than any other fixture.”

Italian-born setter Giulia Pincerato added: “We have a chance of sweeping all competitions we are entering this season but for the time being we remain focussed on what we are expected to do next. I think it is always better to talk as less as possible and play as good as we can.”

Another home star, Georgiana Fales said: “We want to perform our best in order to win the trophy and write a new chapter in Romania’s Volleyball history. We have reached the final and this is already an extraordinary performance, but now we want to seize the trophy.”

The General Manager of C.S.M. BUCURESTI Eugen Banciu concluded: “Unfortunately the number of seats available at Elite & Performance Sport Hall where we will be playing this historic home final is quite low and the demand for tickets was a lot higher. However, the other options we have explored, Sala Polivalenta and Dinamo, were not feasible. For those who will not be able to attend the match from the stands we have arranged a special place right next to Sun Plaza shopping mall where they will be able to follow the matchup with TRABZON on the largest LED screen in Europe.”
