CEV President André Meyer awarded the distinction that recognises the selfless efforts in the promotion and progress of the sport to the president of the Dutch Volleyball Federation (Nevobo), Mr. Hans Nieukerke. The respected head of Nevobo suffered a serious stroke in early September and could not be present in the dazzling event that he fought to make a success right from the moment its organisation was awarded to The Netherlands and Belgium.

Mr. Nieukerke’s wife Karen received the award from CEV President André Meyer as the 11,000 spectators that filled up the Sportpaleis Ahoy arena in Rotterdam gave a standing ovation to honour the figure of one of the most relevant and esteemed personalities in Dutch Volleyball.
