Ideal infrastructure available in Zenica for upcoming #EuroVolleyU19W
CEV U19 Volleyball European Championship 2020

Zenica/Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, July 28, 2020. CEV Vice-President and Treasurer Özkan Mutlugil travelled earlier this week to the city of Zenica to inspect the arena and the hotels due to host the teams participating in the 2020 edition of #EuroVolleyU19W coming up in late August. The event will run from August 22 to 30 in Zenica as well as in Osijek (Croatia).

Mr Adnan Talić, Secretary General of the Volleyball Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (OSBIH), as well as other OSBIH representatives and officials from the city of Zenica accompanied Mr Mutlugil during his visit to the state-of-the-art Husejin Smajlović Arena.

The CEV Vice-President & Treasurer, who is the Jury President of the competition, was pleased with the quality of the infrastructure available on site. “I am very pleased with the inspection visit. The arena and the hotels in Zenica offer extraordinary conditions. I see the Volleyball Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina as a long-term, important partner of the CEV,” Mr Mutlugil said shortly after the inspection of the iconic Arena Husejin Smajlović.

The event is second age-group continental championship hosted in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Back in 2013, the city of Laktaši played host to the U19 men’s competition together with Belgrade, Serbia.

“If the CEV Vice-President comes to Zenica and says that we have the best conditions in Bosnia and Herzegovina, it is certainly an honour for our city. We expect to be partners in the organisation of other major competitions in the future,” said Mr Kenan Uzunović from the City Administration of Zenica.

Last week, the Drawing of Lots held at the CEV headquarters in Luxembourg defined the composition of the two preliminary pools as follows:

The top two teams from each pool will play semis and medal matches in Zenica, with the no. 3 and 4 contesting the classification matches 5-8 in Osijek. The eventual gold and silver medal winners of the tournament will qualify for the 2021 edition of the FIVB Women’s U20 World Championship.
