2018-2020 CEV Beach Volleyball Continental Cup

Schinias, Greece, June 22, 2019. Greece in the women’s table and Turkey in the men’s division secured from Saturday their spot in the second stage of the 2018-2020 CEV Beach Volleyball Continental Cup.

As Pool D is taking place this weekend at Karavi Sports Club in the city of Schinias, Greece needed a Golden Match to secure their spot in the second round of the women’s competition.

Vasiliki Arvaniti and Panagiota Karagkouni beat in the first match Ronja Klinger/Katharina Holzer of Austria 2-0 (21-13, 24-22) and after that, Katharina Schützenhöfer/Lena Plesiutschnig had the upper hand against Dimitra Manavi/Konstantina Tsopoulou with 2-0 (21-14, 21-10) as well.

Arvaniti and Karagkouni faced Schützenhöfer/Plesiutschnig in the Golden Match and despite the cramps both suffered, they managed to seal the win 21-19, 21-19 and secure Greece’s spot in the second stage of the Continental Cup.

Portugal play Kosovo on Sunday morning to determine the country that will challenge Austria for second place in the group.

In the men’s table, the Turkish team dominated in their first match with Kosovo and they secured their place in the second round by beating Sweden.

On Sunday, Greece will face Kosovo and the winners will battle Sweden for the second spot in Pool D.

The top two teams from each of the eight first-round pools progress to the second round.
