12/06/2015 23:11 Tandems from Russia and Germany through to semis at CEV Molodechno Satellite 2015 CEV Beach Volleyball Satellite - Molodechno Molodechno, Belarus, June 12, 2015. The first day of Main Draw action at the CEV Satellite in Molodechno was a good one for Russia’s Yulia Abalakina/Ksenia Dabizha and Germany’s Teresa Mersmann and Isabel Schneider who cruised to three straight wins to progress to the semis of the tournament being held in the Republic of Belarus. Abalakina/Dabizha will be trying to add another medal to their tally for this season as they have already claimed two gold and one silver from EEVZA events, including the season opener held at that same venue in Molodechno. It wasn’t a very successful day for the home teams of Belarus with Valeryia Babenka and Yana Mileuskaya losing their opening match (18-21, 20-22) to Russia’s Ksenia Ezhak and Olga Motrich. Russia’s Abalakina/Dabizha started their campaign in Molodechno with a speedy 21-10, 21-9 win over Latvia’s Ruta Treija and Alise Pastare and after that continued their march with a 21-19, 21-16 win in their matchup with Ukraine’s Inna and Iryna Makhno. In the third round of the elimination phase Abalakina and Dabizha did also not drop a set recording a 21-16, 21-19 win over Latvia’s Alise Lece and Marta Ozolina. The Belarusian fans have been supporting throughout the day not only the home players but also the teams from all other countries. The crowd was paid back with a lot of exciting and close matches where every single tandem delivered their best performance and showed total commitment and determination. The weather is quite hot in Molodechno these days and the players have acknowledged it is not that easy to take on so many matches without the chance to recuperate both mentally and physically. The tournament will continue through Saturday where the semis and medal matches will be played.
