Inaugural CEV Satellite to follow later this week in Molodechno, Belarus
2015 CEV Beach Volleyball Satellite - Molodechno

Molodechno, Belarus, June 9, 2015. The Belarusian city of Molodechno will be hosting later this week a CEV Satellite tournament for the very first time. The women-only event is set to take place at the local Beach Sports Stadium from Thursday, June 11, through Sunday, June 14. Teams from eight different countries are set to compete in Molodechno where a permanent stadium has been set up right at the very heart of the city park. This venue already played host to a stop of this year’s EEVZA Beach Volleyball Tour and also to the 2013 edition of the CEV U18 Beach Volleyball European Championships.

The venue – which has a capacity of 1,000 seats – will welcome back Russia’s Yulia Abalakina and Ksenia Dabizha who in early May topped the charts of the EEVZA event held in the city of Molodechno. The Russians are the second-seeded team of the tournament with the entry lists topped by Germany’s Anni Schumacher and Sandra Seyfferth. Other teams from Latvia, Ukraine and of course Belarus will be trying to leave their mark on this inaugural Satellite on Belarusian soil with quite some players returning to Molodechno after competing at events previously held in this same venue. Teams from France and Spain were also due to join the tournament but in the end could not travel to Belarus due to problems with their visa.

However, with the organisation of a Satellite, the Volleyball Federation of the Republic of Belarus have stepped up their efforts. “This is a good experience and at the same time an opportunity for our players to meet some strong teams,” says Secretary General, Mr Sergej Danilov. “Our players Viktoryia Shalayeuskaya and Viktoryia Siakretava have caught a good start of their 2015 season. They played a couple of EEVZA events and they also entered the FIVB Grand Slam in Moscow. They continue to develop their skills and I am hoping that they will be playing their best here at home,” he continues.

“The most important indicator to measure the success of any event, including the 2015 CEV Beach Volleyball Satellite taking place here in Molodechno, is the number of spectators in attendance. Therefore I invite all fans to come to the stadium and support all players not only on the final days, but also right from the start of the tournament on June 11, when the Country Quota playoff and qualification matches will be played,” Mr Danilov adds.

Starting with the qualification matches on Thursday, the games of the CEV Satellite in Molodechno will be streamed live and for free at LAOLA1.tv
