CEV Satellite in Montpellier to test innovative scoring system
2013 CEV Beach Volleyball Satellite - Montpellier

Montpellier, France, June 5, 2013. The very first edition of the CEV Satellite in Montpellier is set to start on Wednesday afternoon with the Country Quota matches. The tournament will be closely followed by the international Beach Volleyball community for a special reason: an innovative scoring system will be tested for the first time to improve on the attractiveness and appeal of the sport.
This means all matches will be played in a “best of five sets” format, with every set completed once one of the teams reaches 11 points (in case of a tie at 10, this will have to be broken by a 2-point lead).

The Country Quota matches on Wednesday afternoon will see these rules tested for the very first time as four French female duos play for the sole spot available to join the Qualification Round scheduled for Thursday.

Another Country Quota will see two Swiss duos in action for the men’s competition, with brothers Andreas and Roman Sutter playing their compatriots Rafael Bissig/Bernhard Beyeler.

The organizers have prepared a series of side activities for the fans, with a special tournament for children, a demo by the local judo club and other martial arts (aikido). In the evening members of the local press – who regularly work closely with the Montpellier Beach Masters – will join another special tournament addressed to mixed teams composed of 4 players each.
